The Morning Glory is aptly named for it blooms in the morning with light blue, bright pink and purple flowers that wither and die by the afternoon. The fleeting blossoms probably lend to the meaning of the morning glory in the Victorian Language of Flowers for they represent coquetry, a dalliance or flirtation. One of the stories that exemplify the morning glory is that of the young chinese lovers Chien Niu and Chih Neu. Each was entrusted with duties in the Heavenly Kingdom. Chein Niu was given the task of taking care of the water buffalos and Chih Neu was tasked with the seamstress duties for the heavenly kingdom. Their burgeoning love caused them to neglect their duties which angered God. He in turn separated them and only allowed them to meet once a year. The morning glory in chinese folklore represents a single day for lovers to meet because of the precious time that the flower itself blooms.
