Gothic is a style, a mindset, a lifestyle. It is a unique expression of fashion and taste modeled from Victorian and Elizabethan influences. A gothic themed wedding will have many factors that are required to make it gothic. When considering your venue the best representation of a gothic environment will be an old castle full of cold stone corridors. The perfect castle may not be attainable due to your geographic location, unless you have a destination wedding, so an alternate option would be a gothic style manor or mansion. These estates are more accessible and are just as representative of your gothic wedding. Your venue now selected you need to consider the decor. When looking at your decor you need to consider only a few colors such as white, black, red and purple. This color palette is indicative of a gothic theme and runs through the ceremony from the flowers, the dress, the cake and everything else.
When selecting your flowers think crimson roses, deep purple calla lilies or burgundy (black) dahlias to accent your wedding bouquet and centerpieces. Your cake can be white with black accents but think of dark chocolate or red velvet for your flavor. However, your cake can be black with red and purple accents to make it stand out. Your gothic color palette allows for many different combinations for your wedding decor. Make sure that candlelight is prominent at your venue so that the flickering flames with set an eerie mood for you and your guests. Bright light will never due for a truly gothic wedding. Concerned about music? Your typical wedding includes an organ player which fits well with your gothic wedding. Have them play some haunting music and add in some Gregorian chant and and you have a recipe for the perfect mood music.
The most important aspect of your Gothic wedding will be attire. Sticking with the color palette will serve you well but style has everything to do with the proper wedding dress selection. Look back to those Victorian and Elizabethan influences of long flowing, ornate dresses. You will not be wearing your traditional white wedding dress here. Acceptable colors would be crimson with black accents, black with purple accents or any variation therein. Taking into consideration all of these factors will start you off on planning your very own perfect gothic wedding ceremony.
